B.C. officially proclaims International Workers’ Day

Posted in: , ,

On May Day it is important to renew our commitment to the dignity, health, and safety of workers’. I am proud that, for the first time in B.C., we are provincially proclaiming International Workers’ Day as a way to celebrate workers’ in our province.

A logging accident in my 20’s taught me the value of an accessible compensation system, equitable labour relations, and the important role of unions. That experience has always motivated me to pay back to ensure others receive the treatment and respect they deserve.

We must also acknowledge the achievements made by workers who stand up for their rights and have been at the forefront of creating safe and just labour laws. This is an important part of BC’s history and continues to play a critical role today.
