Premier John Horgan has issued the following statement in honour of Canadian Multiculturalism Day, June 27:

“British Columbia is the most diverse province in Canada. Our history has been shaped by all the people who have helped build British Columbia, and connect us to the world. Together, we’re working every day toward a brighter future, with more opportunity for everyone who lives here.

“Our lives are enriched by the inclusive, multicultural society we are so lucky to live in. Cultural diversity is an important part of building a strong, sustainable economy, and helps B.C. strengthen relationships with our partners around the globe.

“As we celebrate diversity, we also stand together against racism, discrimination and hatred spread by those who want to divide us. To make sure every person is treated with dignity and respect, our government re-established a human rights commission. It’s an important part of our work to build a more inclusive and just society, to eliminate systemic inequality, and prevent discrimination.

“Our government always will defend the values of diversity, inclusion and mutual respect. On behalf of the Government of British Columbia, we join all Canadians in celebrating Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and the diverse cultures and communities that make up this province and country. We will keep working together to make life in B.C. better for every person, for now and for future generations.”
